Themicaine 2% jelly works by blocking the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses, primarily through decreasing ionic flux and blocking specific channels. This action results in local anesthesia, effectively preventing pain by inhibiting the signals at the nerve endings in the skin. This leads to the numbness effect. Unlike general anesthetics used in surgery, themicaine 2% jelly does not cause unconsciousness.
